Abstract

This paper will discuss the analysis of the semantic approach in Islamic studies. Semantics is the study and analysis of linguistic meanings. Semantics is a science that examines symbols or signs that express meaning, the relationship of one meaning to another. This includes the meaning of the word, its development, and changes. Semantics as part of linguistics provides additional power to the dimensions of language and meaning contained in the Qur'an, which incidentally is the main source of Islamic studies. Semantics has theoretical power that is able to reveal a clearer meaning of text. The semantic approach in interpreting the Koran is more visible in meanings that reposition the text of the Koran to its textuality and contextuality. Semantics and the Qur'an, both have the characteristics of analysis. Meanwhile, semantics as an auxiliary language science in a scientific discipline positions the Al-Qur'an as an Arabic language text so that the meaning of its contents can be understood as a revelation. It is very interesting to review the process of the semantic approach in Islamic studies, because after all, the existence of Islam, which is actually a revealed religion, begins with verbal interactions presented between Allah as God and His creatures (humans).
